First Class upgrades This content can be expanded

First Class on Alaska Airlines features their most spacious and comfortable seats, plus quilted blankets on longer flights, a larger tablet for free entertainment and more.

An upgrade will be requested for you once your reservation is ticketed. Keep in mind:

AAdvantage Executive Platinum^® and AAdvantage Platinum Pro^® members will be upgraded as early as 120 hours before departure; AAdvantage Platinum^® members as early as 48 hours before departure and AAdvantage Gold^® members as early as 24 hours before departure, if available.
Alaska Airlines Saver Fares (booked in ‘X’) aren’t eligible for status upgrades.

As soon as your upgrade window opens, we'll attempt to confirm by status level, fare and time of booking. The priority for AAdvantage^® status members is:

Confirming upgrades

You’ll receive an email when your upgrade is confirmed if you booked your trip with Alaska Airlines. Visit alaskaair.com to reserve your seat in First Class.

If you booked your trip with American or another booking source, you can check the status of your upgrade on alaskaair.com using your Alaska Airlines confirmation code. If your upgrade has been confirmed, you’ll see it there.

Find your Alaska Airlines confirmation code (also known as a record locator) on your booking confirmation email. If you booked your trip through American, you’ll find it when viewing your trip on aa.com or the American app.

If you’re not upgraded right away, Alaska Airlines will keep checking for upgrade availability – up to 1 hour before your flight.

Upgrade not confirmed at check-in?

Ask an airport agent to add you to the standby list. This won’t happen automatically. Keep in mind:

You can view your status on the Alaska Airlines app, the gate information display, or on alaskaair.com under flight status.
Alaska Airlines uses a single waitlist labeled “Upgrade requests” for First Class upgrades and Premium Class seat requests.
AAdvantage^® status members can be on the waitlist for both a Premium Class seat and a First Class upgrade at the same time.

Premium Class seats This content can be expanded

Premium Class seats on Alaska Airlines feature 4 inches of additional legroom, early boarding and complimentary cocktails, hand-selected wine and beer (where beverage service is normally served).

AAdvantage^® status members receive complimentary access to Premium Class seats, but it works a little differently from how you access Main Cabin Extra seats on American.

Immediate access to Premium Class seats

You’ll have immediate access to Premium Class seats a few minutes after your ticket for an eligible fare is issued, and if space is available.

If you book your trip on alaskaair.com, find fares that are eligible for immediate access to Premium Class using the “Upgrade fare type” filter on their website. Here’s how:

AAdvantage Gold^® members – choose “MVP”
AAdvantage Platinum^® – choose “MVP Gold”
AAdvantage Executive Platinum^® / AAdvantage Platinum Pro^® – choose “MVP Gold 75k”

Whether you book your trip on alaskaair.com or another booking source and visit Alaska’s website later, you can reserve a complimentary Premium Class seat. Here’s how:

Choose a seat in the Main Cabin.
Buy your ticket for a seat in the Main Cabin.
After your trip is ticketed, you’ll be assigned a seat in Premium Class if you booked an eligible fare or once your AAdvantage^® status window opens.

Keep in mind:

Seats marked as “Alaska Elite” are available complimentary to AAdvantage^® status members.
The seat type you choose in the Main Cabin – aisle or window – will be your seat type in Premium Class.
If you choose a seat in an exit row, you won’t be moved to Premium Class.
Choosing a Premium Class seat before ticketing will result in a charge. To receive a complimentary Premium Class seat, you’ll first need to choose a seat in Main Cabin and pay for your ticket.
You can view your assigned seat in Premium Class on alaskaair.com using your Alaska Airlines confirmation code.

Waitlist for Premium Class seats

If your ticketed fare isn’t eligible for immediate access to a Premium Class seat, or if seats aren’t available, Alaska Airlines will try to move you to a Premium Class seat based on your AAdvantage^® status window. Ask an airport agent to add you to the standby list if your request hasn’t been confirmed before check-in. This won’t happen automatically.

Premium Class seat requests are processed by AAdvantage^® status level, fare and time of booking.
